Department of Medical Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology is a vital academic and clinical unit dedicated to the study, diagnosis, and prevention of infectious diseases. It focuses on the understanding of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, that impact human health.

The Department of Microbiology is an intrinsic part of Monno Medical College, situated on the 6th floor of the academic building in Monno City, Manikganj. The department is led by Prof. Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Narjis Maliha Kawsar (MBBS, DCP, FCPS in Microbiology). All the faculty are dedicated to providing high-quality education in a supportive learning environment.

The department provides a comprehensive education to undergraduate medical students, with an emphasis on the etiology, pathogenic mechanisms, diagnosis, and prevention of microbial diseases. It is designed to deliver an integrated education of medical microbiology through a blend of lectures, tutorials, and hands-on practical sessions. Tutorials serve to expand on and clarify lecture content, while practical classes introduce students to fundamental laboratory equipment and key analytical methods. Student progress is consistently monitored through a series of examinations aligned with the established curriculum.

With its modern laboratory facilities and experienced faculty, the Department of Microbiology encourages a dynamic learning environment that provides both academic growth and clinical support. Established by the Monno Welfare Foundation, Monno Medical College aims to produce competent physicians skilled in patient care, professionalism, practice-based learning, and system-based practice, and the college is affiliated with the University of Dhaka and recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC).
