Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology

The Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Monno Medical College is devoted to academic excellence and clinical training in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of diseases of the digestive system and liver. The department plays a vital role in educating medical students about the complexities of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders, which constitute a significant portion of patient care in Bangladesh and worldwide.

Aligned with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) curriculum, the department combines structured academic teaching with practical exposure in outpatient, inpatient, and endoscopic units.

Academic Highlights:

  • Experienced Faculty: The department is led by expert gastroenterologists and hepatologists who provide in-depth instruction and clinical supervision.
  • Comprehensive Clinical Training: Students gain exposure to common and complex conditions such as peptic ulcer disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, chronic liver disease, hepatitis, cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and pancreatitis.
  • Endoscopy & Procedures: Practical training includes demonstrations and observation of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, and liver function assessments.
  • Integrated Learning: Regular case presentations, journal reviews, and seminars are conducted to foster evidence-based learning and enhance clinical reasoning skills.
  • Community Relevance: The department emphasizes prevention and awareness programs for viral hepatitis, liver cancer, and gastrointestinal infections, which are highly prevalent in the region.
